Happens with scapegoating. The family projective identification is cast on the chosen scapegoat who carries the shame and disowned parts of the family.

Glad to see you addressing projective identification. It is also an aspect of family scapegoating dynamics: I took a deep dive into the pathological Family Projective Identification Process in my introductory book on Family Scapegoating Abuse, 'Rejected, Shamed and Blamed' (2020), for anyone interested in the systemic manifestation of this insidious process.

Sounds like an excellent book. I think many people are familiar with the painful outcomes of projective identification but not the name or clinical processes, so I wanted to make a positive change in that arena.
